The Super Bowl Sniper Nest Photos Are Real, But Probably Not What You Think

Although its no secret that the NFL employs sharpshooters, several unsettling photos have been making the rounds showing what appears to be an Indianapolis police sniper manning a Remington M700 rifle set up at Lucas Oil Stadium – the same venue where the Super Bowl was held last Sunday. But were they the real deal? … Sort of.

Apparently the images were taken by a ranking member of the Indianpolis SWAT team before being passed to Alamo Four Star, who made the DCLW tripod on which the rifle sits. Alamo shared the photos with weapons and gear supplier U.S. Tactical Supply, who posted them on their Facebook page along with the following description:

The stadium was not yet open when the pics were taken and the rifle never had a round in it that day. ONLY Binoculars were used for observation during the game and NOT the rifle!! It was only put into position to get the pictures of the form fit and function of the DCLW Tripod.

So there you have it – the whole thing was for an ad. Hit the jump to check out some of the additional pics.
