In order to send an important anti-smoking message, NY magician Richie Magic, aka “The Human Ashtray”, set a new world record on May 19 by extinguishing 70 cigarettes on his tongue in 60 seconds. When all was said and done, Richie showed everyone his black tongue and said:
“It feels horrible. My tongue is numb, but the tip is killing me. I feel the skin peeling away.”
Richie is a smoker himself, who quit in 2009, only to relapse recently during a stressful period in his life. Although his stunt resulted in health risks, physical pain and an all liquid diet for several days afterward, he believes his message is worth it:
“I put the message to the kids before my own health. Smoking is disgusting and terribly addicting.”
