If you’ve noticed a decrease in junk mail touting special offers for Viagra and wang enlargement, there’s a reason – the number of spam emails sent per day decreased 82.22% over the past year. This is due in large part to law enforcement, security experts and Internet service providers teaming up to bring down numerous major spam networks, including “Rustock,†which has been blamed for as much as 40% of all junk email. The graphic above provides a visual: July 2010 saw over 225 billion spam emails sent per day, while in June, 2011, the number had dropped to approximately 40 billion.
Hopefully spam’s downward spiral will continue.
