As the name suggests, Babis Cloud’s sculpture Hedonism(y) Trojaner draws inspiration from the Trojan horse of Greek mythology. We’re sure there’s some kind of hidden artistic interpretation behind the work, but who really cares – its a rocking horse covered with computer keys!

Researchers at Hiroshima University have determined that looking at cute baby animals increases productivity and allows workers to perform their jobs more efficiently.

In three experiments, they studied their cognition and dexterity of 48 college students. In the first, the subjects played a game similar to Operation. In the second, they performed a visual search using number matrices, and the third experiment tested the participants’ focus. In every single experiment, the folks who looked at cute baby animal photos outperformed the ones who did not. They even outperformed those who looked at photos of adult animals.

Of course, in the real world those positive effects will be channeled into tracking down more baby animal videos in a shorter period of time. We’ll get you started: hit the jump to check out two cats licking each other in a frying pan.

Andrew Tuohy decided to experiment by firing his .40 Glock 22 underwater in his pool. The result was captured on a Pentax WG-2 using the “high speed” video setting. He also tried his .45 Kimber 1911 (seen above), and stated that the resulting shock made him feel like he had been kicked in the chest.

Alex Parker, a PHD astronomy student, flexed his artistic muscles by recreating Van Gogh’s masterpiece “Starry Night” using computer mosaic-making software and photos taken by the Hubble Telescope over the last 20 years.

The idea came up around the time of Hubble’s 22nd birthday, when I thought it would be neat to assemble a collage of a bunch of Hubble images from over its history. Observing can be all over the map – You will be shut out by clouds on some nights, have to evacuate the mountain because of high winds and ice on other nights, and other times there isn’t a moment to pause because you’re taking data at such a high rate all night.

When science meets a soda bottle, liquid nitrogen, a garbage can and 1500 ping pong balls, the result is an explosion and the type of ball shower that would make this look like a big bucket of boring. Speaking of boring, you’ll want to fast forward to the 3:00 mark of the video after the break.

DJ Force

Okay, he’s not really called DJ Force, but he might as well be. He’s actually a DJ called Skratch Bastid and he really knows his stuff.

A video of him scratching out the Imperial March using two totally unrelated tracks recently went viral, although the video itself isn’t really new. It’s actually of Skratch Bastid doing a Star Wars-themed battle set for the  2001 Scribble Jam DJ battle in Ohio and it does not disappoint.

Geoff Mackley faced the threat of incineration to get an up close look at one of the Earth’s giant oozing pimples: Vanuatu’s Marum Volcano.

Geoff Mackley, Bradley Ambrose, Nathan Berg, after an epic struggle with the weather for 35 days, we became the first people ever to get this close to Marum Volcano’s famed lava lake on Ambrym Island, Vanuatu. Coming within 30 metres of the lava lake down a watercourse, it was possible to stand the heat for only 6 seconds. With Fire Brigade breathing apparatus and heat proof proximity suit it was possible to stand on the very edge and view the incredible show for over 40 minutes.

Size of the cubes is 30x30cm and are made of styrofoam. All parts are driven by 3375 customized actuators and stepping motors. As a communication system were used both RS-485 and CAN, which provide high-speed data transfer. CAN bus (for controller area network) is a message-based protocol, designed specifically for automotive applications but now also used in other areas such as industrial automation and medical equipment.
